Four temples and a person

June 29, 2014 by puzzler 11 Comments

One person has some money in his pocket, He visits four temple on the way.
As soon as he enters a temple, his money gets double and he offers Rs. 100 in each temple. thus his pocket gets empty after he returns from the fourth temple.
How much money he had initially ?

Check your answer:-

Tried enough already?
Click here to See SolutionHide
Let the person have Rs x with him initially.

When he reached 1st temple his money becomes double that means 2*x or 2x. After he leaves 1st temple remaining amount is 2x-100

then after leaving 2nd temple he have [2*(2x-100)]-100 = 4x-300

then after leaving 3rd temple he have [2*(4x-300)]-100 = 8x-700

then after leaving 4th temple he have [2*(8x-700)]-100 = 16x-1500 which should be equal to 0 since he has nothing at the end

So 16x-1500=0
16x=1500
x=1500/16=93.75

OR you can reverse engineer
before the 4th temple he must be having 50, so that it doubles to 100 and offer 100 Rs.
before the 3rd temple he must be having 75 => 150 – 100 => 50 (for 4th temple)
before 2nd temple he must be having 175/2 = 87.5 => 175 -100 => 75 (for 3rd temple)
before 1st temple he must be having 187.5/2 = 93.75=> 187.5 – 100 => 87.5 (for 2nd temple)

Arrange numbers to get 15 in sum

June 1, 2014 by puzzler 3 Comments

arrange these numbers to get 15 sum in all directions

arrange these numbers to get 15 sum in all directions

Arrange these numbers so that we get sum 15 by adding numbers from any direction(row, column, diagonal)
_2_|_6_|_4_
_1_|_5_|_7_
_3_|_8_|_9_

In HindiHide
_2_|_6_|_4_
_1_|_5_|_7_
_3_|_8_|_9_
in number’s ko is tarha arrange karein ke jis taraf se bhi add karein ’15’ answer aaye.
Click here to See SolutionHide Solution
Let’s first get the sequences whose sum is 15
1 5 9
1 6 8
2 4 9
2 5 8
2 6 7
3 4 8
3 5 7
4 5 6

Now in order to make diagonal, rows and columns sum to 15, middle element should be present in atleast 4 sequences.
There is only one numbers which is present in four sequences i.e. 5, so 5 will be the middle element.

Now corner number can be the number which is present in atleast three sequences, numbers present atleast in 3 sequences are 2, 4, 6, 8.

Numbers which are present only in two sequences can not be in corners and middle of the matrix, such numbers are 1, 3, 7, 9.

By using above logic, we can create a matrix easily.
_8_|_3_|_4_
_1_|_5_|_9_
_6_|_7_|_2_

Obviously there will be multiple possible answers by rotating the matrix.
